Service Description

Class: Spring Foraging and Mushrooming Instructor: Rachel Goclawski Let's see what wild herbs and edibles we can collect in spring! How to ID, harvest, preserve, prep our finds. In spring, we can find many medicinal herbs, nutritious plants, trees, and even some edible wild mushrooms around us. Walk with me, and learn about these seasonal items as well as plants, trees, and mushrooms that can be foraged at other times of the year. I will teach you how to identify the edibles we find safely, methods of preparation and preservation, nutritional and medicinal value. Bring a camera and/or notebook so you can document our finds, collection bags (plastic), and a knife or shears. Wear comfortable walking shoes or boots as the terrain may be uneven or muddy. We will go off the trail be prepared for mud, rocks, steep areas. Insect spray and sunscreen are recommended. Rachel Goclawski, Certified educator, state-certified in Mushrooming, is a Programmer for The Museum of Natural History, New England Botanic Garden, the Girl Scouts, and other non-profits and land preserves. She is a contributing writer for The Cook's Cook: Now, Forager Magazine and has been featured on WBZ, in The Boston Globe, Edible Magazine, local television, and other documentaries and print. Rachel comes from a long line of foragers, including her great-grandfather, Dr. Arthur W. Fairbanks, a founding member of the Boston Mycological Club in the 1800's. Visit her Facebook, Instagram or YouTube for Forage to Table tips, recipe ideas and videos.
