Participants will learn about administering CPR with the use of an AED and relieving choking. The course follows American Heart Association's Family and Friends curriculum.   • FROST Kid's Martial Arts

    Instructor: Jake Eigner Class: Kid's Martial Arts Date: December 2nd - March 3rd (No class 12/23, 12/30, 1/20, 2/17): 10 weeks Time: 11:00am to 12:00 pm Age: 3 to 5 years old Price: $ 275 Learn moves, play games, break a board, practice respect & discipline! Our fun classes focus on positive discipline, respect, self-control, and other soft skills. Class starts with a bow to show respect, followed by a martial arts-based game to warm up. We then put gloves on the kids to practice kicks and punches on pads, and use a foam blocker for the kids to practice blocking strikes. After breaking a board, the gloves come off and we play more martial arts games. Before ending with mediation, we go over some of our character virtues, such as respect and discipline, explaining the concepts in a way the young kids can understand. We emphasize the importance of keeping our hands to ourselves, especially when they do not have the gloves on for safety. They will be given the opportunity to share their own ideas and what they have learned. We then practice slow breathing, being calm and peaceful during our guided meditation. Lastly, we hand out stickers and/or stamps. They may receive extra stickers or stamps for showing exemplary behavior. Kids will receive a white shirt and white belt upon signs up. As they progress through their training, they will earn stripes on their belt and a trophy when getting a belt promotion My name is Jake, I am the owner of Nitsuj Martial Arts. Students will be provided a piece of wood and knife with a step-by-step process in carving. Class will also cover carving positions and techniques, wood selection, knife sharpening, sanding, and possible variations on your project. Families welcome! ABOUT TIM SWANSON FOUNDER & LEAD INSTRUCTOR OF OEWS From a very young age, Tim Swanson held a strong interest in spending time outdoors. As a child, he would be outside identifying insects, building shelters, and looking for animal tracks. Throughout high school, he found activities such as hide tanning, foraging, and backcountry camping. He attended Unity College from 2010-2014 where he received a double Bachelors degree in Adventure Education Leadership and Adventure Therapy. While attending Unity College, Tim was the Training Officer for the volunteer search & rescue team as well as the President of the college's primitive skills club. After receiving his degree, Tim worked as a field guide for various wilderness therapy organizations in Vermont and Utah. While in between shifts working wilderness therapy, he taught animal tracking and foraging at local conservation lands. Through leading these educational walks, Tim started Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival. Tim has extensive professional training in leading backcountry wilderness expeditions, and hundreds of nights in the field leading groups of teenagers and adults. Tim's specialties are ultralight backpacking, stone age living skills, fly-fishing, and foraging for wild plants. He also has a strong background in many wilderness activities including rock climbing, cross-country skiing, and whitewater canoeing.
