Class: Portfolio Prep Art Classes for Middle School & High School Students Instructor: Aleksander Betko Saturdays/February 7th - March 28th/1:00pm-3:00pm/Middle+Highschool/$285 In this course, students will concentrate on producing works for their high school and college portfolios. This course will mainly focus on in person drawing and painting from life, including still life, figure, interior, and landscape. Students will work on compositions, creating completed works as well as sketches and studies. Various mediums will be introduced and explored so the student may find what mediums they prefer to work with. Although technique will be stressed in this course, student's will also be encouraged to think about and explore concepts that are individually meaningful. This is an eight-week course, and all materials will be provided by the instructor. Instructor bio: Aleksander Betko is a contemporary artist known for his captivating and nostalgic urban paintings which have appeared in numerous galleries, and museum showing as well as private collections. Aleksander received his training at New York Student's League under Peter Cox and Harvey Dinnerstein as well as Purchase College and UMASS Lowell. In recent years, he has served two terms in AmeriCorps teaching early child development and literacy using visual arts as highly successful inroad.
Policy & Procedures
WITHDRAWAL & CANCELLATION POLICY: Our programs are supported entirely by participant fees; therefore, full refunds are not provided. If a participant withdraws at least 7 days prior to the program start date, a refund less a 25% processing fee will be issued. Withdrawals made fewer than 7 days before the start date are non-refundable. No refunds are issued for events. Cancellations made at least 7 days prior to the start of a program will receive a 75% refund; no other refunds will be granted. If Roudenbush cancels a class, participants will be notified and issued a full refund or voucher. RELEASE OF LIABILITY FOR MINOR: I/We, as the parent or legal guardian of a registered minor, consent to the child’s participation in The Roudenbush Community Center, Inc. (TRCCI) programs and use of TRCCI facilities and equipment. I/We agree to release and hold harmless TRCCI, its employees, agents, and assigns from any liability arising from participation in these programs. I/We further consent to emergency medical treatment in the event of injury or illness during program participation and accept financial responsibility for such treatment. PHOTOGRAPHY PERMISSION: I/We consent to the taking of photographs and videos of my/our child for use in the promotion of TRCCI programs. BEHAVIOR POLICY: Children are expected to treat instructors, staff, peers, and the facility respectfully; use kind words; keep hands and feet to themselves; follow instructions; participate safely; remain in designated program areas; and use materials appropriately. Instructors address behavior concerns using a supportive, step-by-step approach that may include reminders, redirection, brief cool-down periods, parent or guardian communication, early pickup, or removal from future classes if behavior repeatedly impacts safety or learning. Refunds for removed participants will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. A child may be removed immediately if behavior poses a danger to themselves, other participants, or staff. In these cases, the child will be brought to the Community Center’s main office and parents or guardians will be contacted for prompt pickup. Families play an important role by reviewing expectations with their child, sharing relevant information or accommodation needs, and remaining reachable during class times. Roudenbush welcomes children of all abilities and backgrounds and strives to provide reasonable accommodations to ensure a safe, fun & enriching experience for everyone.
