  • SAT Reading and Writing Bootcamp

    Instructor: Lynn Bonakdar Class: SAT Reading and Writing Bootcamp Date: February 24th & March 3rd Time: 6:00 - 8:00pm Age: High School Price: $180 This Reading and Writing Boot Camp for the Digital SAT is designed to help students of all levels boost their confidence and elevate their score. Students will practice Digital SAT test-taking strategies and work through real SAT questions as they sharpen their grammar, close reading, and analytical writing skills. The instructor will provide all necessary supplementary materials; no book necessary. The class meets twice after February vacation and ends just five days before the March 8th SAT test administration. Lynn Bonakdar has been teaching in Westford for twenty years. Currently, she teaches 11th and 12th grade English at Westford Academy. Lynn holds a Master of Education and has years of private tutoring experience in writing, SAT/ACT test preparation, and literature. She has been teaching community education courses in the area for over a decade and is passionate about helping students sharpen their skills and increase their confidence.

  • Wilderness Survival Basics

    Instructor: Tim Swanson Class: Wilderness Survival Basics Date: Saturday March 29th Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm Age: 3rd grade to Adults Price: $150 Learn wilderness survival skills! A family class. This introductory class will set you up with the basic skills to keep yourself warm, hydrated, and fed in the wilderness. Foundational skills for hikers, backpackers, hunters, trail runners, or anyone wishing to enjoy the outdoors. Wilderness Survival 1 prepares you with basic outdoor skills that will build your confidence, expand your knowledge, and deepen your connection to nature. Wilderness Survival 1 can be taken as a standalone class, or with the intention to continue further with other OEWS classes involved in the Alula Certification. Students who finish Wilderness Survival 1 will have met the prerequisites to take Wilderness Survival 2 or 3.Students will be rewarded with an OEWS logo patch and a feather patch at the end of this class. As a child, he would be outside identifying insects, building shelters, and looking for animal tracks. Throughout high school, he found activities such as hide tanning, foraging, and backcountry camping. He attended Unity College from 2010-2014 where he received a double Bachelors degree in Adventure Education Leadership and Adventure Therapy. While attending Unity College, Tim was the Training Officer for the volunteer search & rescue team as well as the President of the college's primitive skills club. After receiving his degree, Tim worked as a field guide for various wilderness therapy organizations in Vermont and Utah. While in between shifts working wilderness therapy, he taught animal tracking and foraging at local conservation lands. Through leading these educational walks, Tim started Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival.

    Instructor: Rachel Benson Class: Felt A Totoro Date: February 26th Time: 6:00 - 7:45 Age: 6th grade - Adults Price: $35 Learn the basics of needle felting Felted Totoro This Class is open to teens/adults (Kids 9-12 are welcome to join with an adult) Join fiber artist Rachel Benson to learn the art of needle felting! In this class you will be guided step by step to make your own adorable Totoro sculpture. Adorn with an umbrella or little details of your choosing. Whether this is your first time or you’ve done some felting in the past you are welcome! All materials provided. Leave with a fun creation and hopefully excitement to create more felted art! Rachel Benson is a fiber artist working primarily with needle felting and other media to create whimsical images of nature, both realistic and abstract. Rachel studied Fine Arts and Technical Theater in college and is currently a freelance artist and art teacher. She shares her love of art through teaching, commissions, and selling her work at craft fairs and galleries.
