Location: Roudenbush, 65 Main Street
RCC-E14044 Apr 21-May 26 (6 Fri) 6:30 pm-7:30 pm $143/$140
Your dog has an amazing nose! This class offers an introduction to the exciting dog sport of K9 Nose Work. Based on professional detection dog training techniques, K9 Nose Work is fun for dogs of all breeds, ages and personalities. In the foundation course, we reconnect with your dog's innate abilities to sniff and to hunt through a series of exercises designed to develop independent hunting and problem solving skills. At the same time, you will begin to develop your skills as a handler by observing your dog's behavior while they are working scent. Rewarding at source, odor movement, odor cones, hide placement strategy, and other foundation concepts will be discussed. K9 Nose Work classes are a great way to offer your dog both physical and mental stimulation, and it's a game you and your dog can play for life!

Pre-requisite: No previous training is required. However, as all dogs search independently your dog will have to wait away from the search area when not working. You may bring a crate or leave your dog in your car. Crates may be covered or kept behind a barrier and will never have a line of sight to the search area.

About the Instructor:
Kathy Austin, KPA CTP, CNWI, ATDI became interested in dog sports as a way to continue training with her dog when traditional obedience classes were not the right fit. Kathy and her dog have trained in agility, rally obedience and Wag It Games. Kathy and Clancy became involved in K9 Nose Work shortly after the sport migrated to the East Coast in 2010. In 2012, Kathy became a partner at Dogs' Learning Center, and started assisting her instructor with K9 Nose Work classes. She began instructing in 2013, as well as continuing to learn about K9 Nose Work through participation in trials, seminars, workshops, and camps. Kathy is in the process of completing the Certified Nose Work Instructor program, instructs multiple K9 Nose Work classes at her facility in Hudson, MA, and is actively training and competing with Clancy. Kathy is also just beginning Nose Work journey with her new dog, Pippi. "I love watching and learning from dogs simply doing what they do best. It is pure joy for the dogs and for people." Instructor: Jennifer Hofmann
Location: Roudenbush, 65 Main Street
RCC-E14419 May 16 (Tue) 6:30 pm-8:30 pm $70/$67
Cold process soaps are created by blending oils (or fat) with a lye mixture. In turn the soap saponifies over the next twenty-four hours turning the lye-oil mixture into a solid bar of soap!

The class will cover the following:
Brief history and basic chemistry of soap making
Necessary materials, supplies and equipment
Safety considerations when working with sodium hydroxide
Taking accurate measurements & proper mixing temperatures
Coloring your soap (micas, labcolors, herbs, spices & clays)
Scenting your soap (fragrance oils verses essential oils)
Preparing your molds and molding options
Insulating, cutting, curing and storing your finished soap

Everyone will make their own 1lb batch of soap that they will get to take home with them (the mold will be theirs to keep as well so they can make future batches of soap).
Students will also leave with very thorough handouts and enough information to make awesome vegetable-based natural soap from scratch on their own as well as a full-sized bar of soap to enjoy. This class uses only vegetable based ingredients. Materials fee of $20 is payable to instructor at class.

NOTE: This is an age 18+ class since making soap from scratch involves working with lye (aka sodium hydroxide). For safety reasons please wear or bring a long-sleeved shirt. You'll also need to bring an old towel or blanket to insulate your soap on the way home.

About the Instructor:
