New!   INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (Teen +)

Beginning students will learn basic photographic principles such as the camera and it's controls, how to use aperture and shutter speed together to get a proper exposure, white balance, tricky lighting situations and how to get the image right "in the camera" so that lots of time isn't spent correcting the image on the computer.
Beginning and more advanced students will gain a better understanding of subject matter and image content.
Each student will also get one-on-one instruction on the controls and functions found on their own personal cameras.
Students are encouraged to bring in examples of their work for a personal critique by the instructor.
Small assignments will be given to gauge understanding of the lessons.
The instructor will make his E-mail available during the class as well as afterwards so that students will be able to continue to learn and grow.
So, grab those instruction manuals that are collecting dust on the shelf or sitting at the bottom of your camera bag and come on down as we demystify the principles of digital photography.
Students will learn the basic skills needed to "get the most out of their digital cameras" in a friendly and nurturing environment.
This course is perfect for beginning students as well as seasoned amateurs who would like to brush up on some basic skills.
No previous photographic knowledge is necessary.
35mm based SLR's and Point and Shoot cameras are welcome. Film based shooters are welcome as well and may have their film processed and burned onto a CD by their labs.

In the Jr. Robotics program, kids from 5 TO 7 years of age will get a head start on basic robotics with specialized Lego brick sets and software. They will build simple models, attach different types of sensors and motors to them and then program them to perform basic robot behaviors. By working in teams of two, children will learn creative, problem solving and team working skills. This course is designed to be really hands on allowing students to learn and have fun at the same time.

It is no secret that poor nutrition and inactivity are putting todays youth at risk of developing life threatening diseases as they age. According to the American Obesity Association, approximately 30% of children ages 6 to 11 are overweight and 15% are obese. The prevalence of obesity has quadrupled over the past 25 years. This ten week program is designed to teach children between the ages of 8 and 12 the extreme dangers of being overweight and obese as well as the importance of daily fitness based activities. Participants of Operation Fit Kids will spend half an hour each class learning the importance of healthy food choices and half an hour learning the importance of exercise. Each half hour will include fun activities to reinforce what was taught.

Learning through music - a winning combination! Through songs, instrument play, stories, games & pretend play, your child will develop the skills needed for early school success! Children will spend the first 30 minutes of this class independent of their parents. Parents are advised to remain near the classroom should your child need you, however, you may remain in the room if your child is more comfortable with you present. The last 15 minutes are spent with the parents and children sharing music and activities together. Materials fee of $15 will be collected at first class.

Celebrate your baby's development and nurture your bond in this very special weekly music and movement program designed for you and your lap baby, crawler or walker. You and baby will experience and participate in purposeful music activities that stimulate cognitive and language, social and emotional and physical development of your child, including object and instrument exploration, vocal play, singing, dancing, creative movement, infant massage, and gentle exercise and play. Join Bonnie Rankin for our Friday Night Workshops! Bonnie Rankin is a Storyteller - Librarian and a member of the Recycling Committee for the Town of Chelmsford. Together, we will complete a Scout Merit Badge in a fun Friday evening workshop. Badges will be finished during the scheduled time unless there is work to be done at home.
Boy Scout Webelo Communicator Badge:
We will play games, create team public service announcements, create you Den's own secret code, leran a bit of the history of hobo signs and create your own picture sign. You will also learn the basics of how libraries are organized and the instructor will share a caveman story of how Mr. Dewey created the dewey decimal system. We will write a brief newspaper article about our workshop.
Girl Scout Junior Now and Then Stories:
We will complete at least six requirements for the Now and Then Stories from Around the World Badge. We will explore the different types of stories: Legends, Trickster Tales, Moral Stories and many more. We will play games and create our own stories and discuss how to start a storytelling tradition with your family. Workshops open to individuals or groups.
