ath. The Roudenbush Community Center is offering this interactive, hands-on LEGO Robotics program in four 1-week sessions. Both boys and girls will find the activities exciting and engaging as they stimulate their imagination. The curriculum was developed by Tufts University Center for Engineering and Educational Outreach with funding from the IBM Global Work/Life Fund.
Students will design, build, and program their robots using the engineering design process. Several open-ended challenges will be posed to the students throughout the week. They will use standard LEGO bricks, programmable LEGO bricks, and other materials to complete their projects. The week will start with activities focusing on stability in design, weight distribution, and momentum as the students incorporate programming and motors into their designs. Each week, we will have a special visitor from the Robotics or Scientific field.
July 15-19 - Visiting Guest: (tbd)
Fun & Games: Students learn how to build and program robot to sing, dance, navigate a maze, hit or pitch a ball, play mini golf, and more. Campers will build a new project each day, learning how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock. Then they will take what they have learned to design their own thrills and challenges.
July 22-26 - Visiting Guest: Catch the Science Bug. "Engineering Science Bug Putty", Wed, July 24
Battle Bots: Campers learn to design and build their own motorized battle cars and other vehicles. Using principles of simple and complex machines, gearing, and mechanical advantage, students will try to flip, push, or smash their opponent's battle vehicles. Students may outgrow their love of LEGOs (don't count on it), but this insight into physics will stay with them forever.
August 5-9 - Visting Guest: Catch the Science Bug. "What Floats Your Boat?", Thur, Aug 8
Ocean Odyssey: Come along on a journey like no other ~ dive into the deep waters of the ocean and learn build and program robots. Campers are on an undersea adventure and will build robots to explore the ocean floor, save a giant squid, connect an air pipeline, and more.
August 12-16 - Visiting Guest: (tbd)
Sports: Students will have fun creating robots that can throw, dunk, kick and score. You can increase your robot's speed, flexibility and range of motion and then experience the thrill of victory when your robot goes for a long shot and actually scores the goal!

Children work in groups of 3-5 depending on class size to create a short stop motion animation video. Groups begin by storyboarding and writing their story on the first day while we discuss setting expectations. Day two through four is dedicated primarily finalizing the story and set design. The final day is for
filming and editing. During filming each student will get to sit as the director, computer operator, and movement coordinators. Should time allow students will also voice over their movies and create sound effects, create an intro and final credits. Movies will be posted to YouTube for students to share their creations
with family and friends.
On average we expect each group to create 30-60 seconds of film using a 10-15 frame per second
playback rate. This will require 300-900 pictures per group. Should groups decide to collaborate on a story a longer overall movie is possible by combining scenes.
