RCC-E14562 Jul 17, 20, 21 (Thur) 9:00 am-12:00 pm
A three hour workshop that focuses on the job of engineering! Engineers are creators. They creat many items we use every day such as bikes, cell phones, chocolate bars and lip balms. In this program participants create their own boat and ball! After learning the science of floatation, you create a boat from aluminum foil then place it in water to see how many marbles it can carry while remaining afloat. The next challenge is to redesign your boat to see if you can increase the amount of weight it holds. This is where your problem solving ability and creativity come to the rescue! The next part of the program involves engineering a super ball from design to mold building to making the ball. Once dry, we'll put them through the test against factory made super balls to see which bounce higher!

Instructor Kim Bent has been presenting science and engineering programs for 19 years and produced an award winning science and engineering series for PBS Rhode Island.
